Stop making excuses – 10 unwanted ways it delays your success

Do you know unless you stop making excuses you can never succeed in your life?

“I do not have the time to do the extra work needed for my promotion. I have my family responsibilities. And I am dead tired after my hectic work schedule. There is just no time” Laksh, my friend’s son was giving out excuses for his disinterest in not studying for his next level of promotion.

Most of you are like him. You want success, but you are not ready to work hard to achieve it. It is because you never want to venture out of your comfort zone.

And to quell you guilt you start making excuses. But unless you stop making excuses you cannot move an inch in your endeavor towards achieving success.

“I don’t have the time.”

“I don’t have the capacity to succeed.”

“I am not trying because I am still learning the nuances of my work.”

“I am so tied up with other things that I don’t think I will be able to finish my work today.”

I am sure most of you give some sort of an excuse for your nonperformance\procrastination\laziness.

It is sad that you literally hide behind your excuses and wither away your life.

Why do you find it easy to making excuses rather than do things that could bring your success faster?

Why is it you always seek out excuses instead of plunging into your work and be done with it?

  • It is because you have all sort of fears of failing in whatever you do.
  • You are overawed by the magnitude of exertion involved in making your work done.
  • You hate meeting people.
  • You are negative.
  • You are lazy.

Can you see that these negative qualities make you give loads of excuses?

You should stop doing it as it is very deterrent to your success.

It is a harsh fact that you feel it easy to procrastinate doing things needed for your success and sink into your comfort zone of inactivity.

You convince yourself that you will start your work tomorrow, but the tomorrow never comes. You keep delaying your work so much so that your life becomes stagnant and static.

I too have this habit of hiding behind excuses for not starting the passion of my life- a Tamil YouTube channel about relationships. I always have tons of excuses handy so that I didn’t feel bad about my nonperformance.

When I get up in the morning, I will tell myself that I will begin the preliminary work of my YouTube channel. But invariably I will have an excuse in hand.

“I still haven’t learned about editing my videos. I must improve my talking style. I am tired today. When I overcome my drawbacks, I will definitely start my work.” But invariably, I keep postponing my work until this date.

I have a natural flair for writing. So, I am very confident about it. But talking is an entirely different genre. I also feel very apprehensive about showing my face and talking directly with the viewers.

“How will people react to me?”

“Will they like the way I talk?”

“What if I receive negative comments?”

I know I must stop making excuses if I must succeed.

Excuses are no good. It is just a success stopper.

So, you too must immediately stop making excuses and start working.

Here are the simple tricks.

1. Trust your ability

Unless you trust your capacity, you will never try. Understand the simple fact that the highly successful people you are in awe were strugglers just like you and me in the initial stages of their life.

The only difference was that they never hid behind excuses.

They were in the forefront doing their work, irrespective of the issues and problems they faced.

2. Be patient.

Most of you feel disheartened when you fail time and again. Your failures make you lose heart. So, you give up trying.

Never be so.

You can never expect magical results as soon as you begin your work. Impatience in your journey towards your success is a big no.

You must understand the plain fact that your seed of efforts takes time to germinate to branch out as the success you dream of.

Yes!

It might be years before you pluck the fruits of your hard work.

3. Do not build castles in the air

Most of you have dreamy expectations about the result of your work. You think that you will acquire celebrity status in no time.

This does not happen to anyone.

So, do not build castles in the air. Understand the simple fact that your output of success depends on your input of efforts and hard work.

Though success does not come easily, it is not an out-of-the-way destination also.

4. Do not fear people

Your work often involves meeting people you do not like.

You hate the experience of timeless waiting for an appointment with your higher officials. You have such an aversion to their overbearing behavior that you shirk from meeting them.

Can you see how you make your mind cloudy with unwanted fear about people?

This is the reason you hand out tons of excuses for not meeting people.

Remember that everyone is as human as you are. No one is better than you. Only you give them a higher status.

So, stop making excuses for not meeting people. In actuality you are delaying your success through your unwanted fear about people.

5. Be kind to yourself

Never ever degrade yourself. When you feel you are not good enough, excuses come pouring out of you.

Understand that you are very capable.

Always be the first to congratulate yourself for the good work done by you.

When something does not go according to your plan, do not feel let down as it will pull your confidence to the rock bottom.

If you allow your confidence level to dip, your energy level also plunges well below the danger level.

Treat your mistakes as lessons.

Do not overstrain yourself.

Do your work at your own pace.

The only thing you should do is to stop giving excuses.

6. Never ever compare yourself with others

When you compare yourself with others you will feel you are very lacking.

This is a wrong way of living your life.

Your way of doing things will be definitely different from others. Your success will come in its right time.

So, never make the success or fame of others as a parameter to compare yourself with them.

7. Start small

You cannot gallop towards your success just like that. Every destination is reached by the first step.

The huge success of the famous people always started with small success.

So, don’t think you should always start big to finish big.

No!

Start with small steps. As you go along you will find that your steps are getting bigger and faster. You will stop making excuses when you do so.

8.Write down what should be done

If you do not write down about the things to be done, you will forget it.

So, write down your plan of work. Keep referring to it.

It will help you a great deal as a reminder of things to be done.

I write down what I should do for my success. I number them according to its priority. When I finish one step, I tick it and go towards the next step.

It does help in making me more proactive.

You too try it. You will be astounded by the positive results this simple trick gives you.

9.Visualize your eventual success

You should visualize your success in such a vivid way that it will become a reality one day.

But visualization without hard work will never help.

Keep working hard. Never ever give up even if you fail multiple times.

Accompany your hard work with vivid visualization of your impending success.

It never fails to deliver the goods.

10. Overcome your weakness

There is not a single person who does not have some sort of weakness.

So, do not be cowed down by your weakness.

If laziness is your weakness, fight against it.

If fear is your drawback, fight against it.

If lack of knowledge is your disadvantage, fight against it.

Fighting against your weakness will make you more efficient and result oriented.

Conclusion

“He that is good for making excuses is seldom good for anything else.” -Benjamin Franklin

Can you see why you should stop making excuses?

It is true it is easy to give excuses than to work hard.

But if you want your life to be fruitful, you must overcome the habit of seeking excuses.

If you do so, the so far eluding success in your life would be knocking at your door.
