stop feeling self-conscious

Most of you are so self-conscious about yourself, that you feel everyone is analyzing you critically. You literally cringe in embarrassment, thinking that you are not worthy of good comments from others. That low is your opinion about yourself.

When you have such low opinion about yourself, it is not surprising you are very self-conscious.

Have you ever analyzed the reasons behind your self-consciousness?

  • You are self-conscious about your appearance, which you feel is not good enough.
  • You are self-conscious because of your low social status, and feel you cannot be equal to others.
  • You are constantly worrying about other people’s opinion about you.
  • You always think about yourself in a negative way.
  • You are so unsure about yourself, that you feel totally inhibited to interact with others.

Whatever might the reasons, you must stop feeling self-conscious about yourself. It is because, it will not do you any good.

Most of you never feel normal, when you enter a room of people, don’t you?

You feel that everyone is looking at you, analyzing you, and having unconstructive thoughts about you. So, you freeze into immobility, and become tongue tied to interact with people.

You are wrong.

Why should people make low comments about you?

They have lot more personal work to do than to keep analyzing you. It is you who think that others are making negative comments about you, when in actual fact they have their own personal worries and qualms.

What happens when you are self-conscious?

Your body language becomes negative and gloomy.

  • Your eyes become shifty and wavering.
  • You fidget with your fingers and hands.
  • You keep shifting your legs.
  • You do not stand erect. Instead, you stand with your shoulders hunched in uncertainty.

Do not exhibit such negative body language. When you stop feeling self-conscious, you can enjoy your life a lot better.

  • Be confident about your future.
  • Change your attitude towards life. Become positive and assertive. A positive person is never self-conscious.
  • Never underestimate yourself. [No 1 reason for your self-consciousness]
  • Never overestimate others. When you think that others are better than you are, a feeling of inferiority complex enters your mind.
  • Never compare your life with others.

I have a friend who has a very manly voice. If you close your eyes and listen to her, you will be sure that you are talking to a man. But this impairment has not fazed her at all.

“I was born with this defect. I cannot be bothered about it and if someone finds it odd, it is his problem, not mine” would be her confident rejoinder.

You should be like my friend – Self-assured and bubbling with confidence. Like her, you too should feel that your life is all about you, and not about others.

Complex about your appearance is yet another reason you feel very self-conscious. You feel that your appearance is not as good as others.

You are wrong in feeling so.

Everyone has something good in their appearance. No one is totally bad looking, and no one is totally good looking. So, stop feeling self-conscious about your looks.

You can improve your appearance when you groom yourself. A well-groomed look boosts up your confidence. It makes you feel less self-conscious. When you are well-groomed, you feel confident and assertive. You are instantly noticed by others.

The confidence a well- groomed look gives you is endless and limitless. It transforms your image to the outside world, and induces a feeling of goodness within you.

When you are mingling with high status relatives\friends\colleagues, you feel very self-conscious about your lower social status.

The wealth of others is something they enjoy. It has nothing to do with your life. So, stop feeling self-conscious about your social status. When you work hard, you too can go up the social status.

When you face consistent failures and defeats, you are very self-conscious before people who are more successful than you are. Success of others is not permanent, and your failure is not there to stay with you forever. So, stop being self-conscious about your failure.

Finally, do some self-analysis about yourself.

Stand before a mirror and look at yourself.

What is the reflection you see?

Do you see a glum face staring back at you gloomily?

Then you will not like yourself. When you do not like yourself, others too will not like you. It is your inhibitions and lack of confidence which makes your lips pull down with dejection and depression.

Now for a change, smile and tilt your head in confidence. Comb your hair and straighten your dress.

What is the reflection you see now?

You see a confident person who has an easy smile, and so will be liked by other people.

The mirror is the same. Both is your own reflection.

Your first reflection had the look of abject dejection.

You hated your depressive look, didn’t you?

In the second reflection, you had the look of cool confidence.

You liked your self-assured look, didn’t you?

Yes!

Self-assurance is the key to stop feeling self-conscious.

CONCLUSION

Do not ever place others in a pedestal, and place yourself in the rock bottom. No one is better than you are. When you assume that others are better than you are, you will become very self-conscious.

No one can degrade you, unless you allow them to do so. When you degrade yourself and think that you are worthless, you lose all your assertiveness. You will eventually become intolerably self-conscious.

“I used to care about how other people thought I led my life. But lately I’ve realized that most people are too preoccupied with their own lives to give anybody else even the scantiest of thoughts.” –Douglas Coupland.

No one has the time to analyze you. So, stop feeling self-conscious by giving others overdue attention and concentration. Wasting your life, by making the opinion of others decide your life is an extreme mistake you are committing.

When you come out of your shell, you will see that the world is wide enough to accommodate you.
