My daughter was a school girl when my husband passed away. She was a helpless eyewitness to my innumerable sufferings. She witnessed my struggle for money. She witnessed my agony for survival. She witnessed my tears. She witnessed my struggle as a single parent.

“You are very lucky to have seen many hardships in your young age. Do not forget the bitter lessons it had taught you. It will come in good stead when you grow up” was my advice to her. An advice which my daughter has never forgotten.

So, treat your adversities as a precious lesson.

1. This too shall pass

Develop the mindset of looking at your problems as passing clouds.

Do clouds stay in one place?

It vanishes eventually.

When you are undergoing tough problems in your life, you feel that your difficulties are there to stay forever, don’t you?

No!

You are wrong.

Nothing in this world is permanent.

When this is so, why do you give your sufferings a permanence?

Your problems will be solved one day.

If you are negative you will never have the will power to overcome adversity in life. But when you are positive, you easily develop the will-power to fight against all your odds.

When you keep fighting against your adversities, it is only natural that one day it will bid goodbye from your life.

2. Never-say- die attitude

This is an essential attribute you should cultivate if you want to overcome adversity in life.

It is so easy to give up and surrender to your problems.  If you do so, you will never see dawn in the darkness of your life.

You will drown if you do not move your limbs when you are in the sea. Likewise, you will fail in life if you let go your trying.

When you cease to try, your life will become one big disappointment for you.

But when you fight vigorously, you blow away your adversities right out of your life.

Overcoming problems is as simple as that. All it needs from you is your fighting spirit even when your back is on the wall.

3. Never ever lose hope

When you lose hope, everything is lost in your life.

But when you have hope, you gain everything you have lost.

Hope is the best and only medicine for your adversities.

Hope acts like an anchor when your minds seethes in agony in a desperate search for a way out of your problems. It pacifies your troubled mind.

Hope feeds positive thoughts into your mind to act with authority to overcome adversity in life.

4. Like yourself

When you face adversities the first person you dislike is yourself.

You think that you are a born failure. Your mind screams negatively that you cannot win.

This is a very wrong attitude.

Be kind to yourself. You need a friend in you.

When you like yourself, you will see many positive aspects in your character. It makes you never give up your fight against adversities.

5. Be with positive people

When you are with negative people, they pull down your spirits by making you feel that you cannot win against your adversities.

Negative people say “you cannot.”

Your mind accepts it and makes you supine and without a backbone.

But when you are with positive people, they pull up your energy level by saying “you can.”

Encouragement always makes you feed positive thoughts into your mind. Your positive thoughts churn out positive actions making it possible for you to see the light in your life.

However efficient you might be, you cannot reach your destination without direction sign boards.

The direction sign board is a guidance which guides you properly to your destination. Otherwise you will be lost.

Life is a journey and a long and strenuous one at that. There is no smooth sailing. You suffer – you recover. You fail – you win. Such is the ups and downs of life.

Like the direction sign boards in the road, your obstacles act like a navigator to guide you to the right path to make a mark for yourself.

7. Do not become cynical

Cynicism is poisonous as it makes you feel depressed and dejected. When you are cynical you see everything with a negative mentality.

You think that you are only one to suffer. You become a recluse and shy away from people. You gradually become a mentally sick person.

Understand that everyone has their share of suffering. Never think you are the only one to suffer.

Instead of being skeptical, have belief and trust in the good things of life. It will make you cling on until you recover from your trauma.

8. Your family is your strength.

Your family plays an effective and telling role in your struggle for survival. Your love for them gives you the hold to fight for your retrieval in life.

When I was suffering the worst trauma of my life I held on to the love for my daughter as an anchor. Believe me, it gave me sheer guts to fight against my problems. I realized that it was my duty to protect and shield her. It geared me up to fight against all my adversities.

Now, here I am writing about life and ways to improve its quality. Without my bitter experiences, I would never have molded as a confident person.

9. Never let your appearance go

Your outward appearance has a telling effect in your fight against adversities. If you let your appearance wither away, it will affect you mentally.

Disheveled appearance makes you stooped in worry, ever frowning in anger, depressive in thoughts and mentally sick.

Your well-groomed appearance makes the outside world see that you are a fighter and not a loser. Your outward appearance acts like a shield to your hardships.

You like yourself a lot when you look good. The criticizing world takes a step backwards when your appearance showcases your confidence and assertiveness.

10. Give yourself a pep talk

When you are suffering, no amount of pep talk from others will help you. But when you give yourself pep talk you start believing it.

Vividly visualizing your success against your adversities, makes you take initiative steps to overcome the many hurdles you face in your life.

Your staunch belief in yourself acts like a paddle to make you tide over your sea of problems.
